In theory, if the tide times were right, you could be dropped off at the centre, and walk back via public footpaths to the coast, then The Broomway. But that hasn't put off Quintin Lake, who is taking it on as part of a five-year challenge to walk the entire coastline of Britain.
The shot was taken as the tide was coming in but clearly visible is the start of the path out into the sea, with the 'broom' markers on either side of the path. But having walked The Broomway, I can see that this path could be the most deadly of all.

The Ordnance Survey maps show various offshoots from the path, running off The Broomway and back to land. Before this walk, if I'd thought about dangerous paths, I might have come up with a mountain pass or a steep track along a cliff edge. Note that the Island's pub is long since closed.
It should be no deeper than six inches, but if it is, it could be a warning that the tide is coming in earlier than anticipated. The Broomway, a desolate sea path which connects Great Wakering to Foulness Island, is said to have claimed the lives of more than 100 people.
The 44-year-old started the gargantuan task in 2015 when his children were just aged one and two. The Broomway, named as such for the ancient legend of the path being set out with upside down brooms in the mud, connects the island of Foulness with the Southend mainland at Wakering Stairs..

She is more like someone who stood trying to command the tide not to come in, and then when she felt the water coming up over her knees, retreated a few feet towards shore, and stood pretending she had never been standing anywhere else, and resumed her efforts. At some point, you'd think that just giving up on the SUV would be easier than writing all these silly columns.
