Introduction World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about focusing attention on the importance of water. The World Water Day 2018 Colloquium organized by the Anton & Petra Ehrmann-Stiftung Graduate School "Water - People - Agriculture" was held in the castle of the University of Hohenheim under the topic "Nature based solutions for Societal Challenges Related to Water". The campaign is called ‘The answer is in nature’ and raises awareness of NBS. Water is an essential building block of life. World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water.

It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis.

Date: Thu, 03/22/2018 (March 22, 2018) Today, in honor of World Water Day, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO) are highlighting the use of nanotechnology for water treatment and purification. In 2018, the theme for World Water Day is “Nature for Water”. This year’s theme, ‘Nature for Water’, explores nature-based solutions (NBS) to the water challenges we face in the 21st century. This Day is an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, be inspired to tell others and take action to make a difference. World Water Day is coordinated by UN-Water – the UN’s inter-agency collaboration mechanism for all freshwater related issues – in collaboration with governments and partners. The World Water Day 2018 theme ‘Nature for Water’ aims to show the potential of nature-based solutions for water and how they can be considered for water management policy and practice. World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
