I have the Japanese SHM because it was highly recommended by some, though it sounds a lot like the original CD to me. Hold Your Fire was remastered again in 2011 by Andy VanDette for the "Sector" box sets, which re-released all of Rush's Mercury-era albums.
Hold Your Fire captures Rush in the middle of the 1980's, synths and all, and delivers a pretty good album.
To get to the bottom of it this album along with Rush's Power Windows was COMFORT MUSIC for me during the 1980s. Hold your fire was really a plea from not only Rush but every American as it said that the doomsday clock was 6 minutes before 12.
The original CD was somewhat dull but serviceable.
The remastered CDs are loud, brittle, and generally awful.
It is included in the Sector 3 set.
