As of 30 June, we still have banded only TWO new Ruby-throated Hummingbirds--both adult males. This is usually the result of predators hanging around looking to make a meal of the birds. Where Are My Hummingbirds I’ve heard comments from a lot of hummingbird lovers out there, asking “Where are my hummingbirds?” Loyalists, who are used to seeing swarms of hummingbirds at their feeders, feel like they are coming up empty this season. Is something causing the hummingbirds and bees to disappear? Readers are concerned that the hummingbirds have stopped visiting their feeders. This year, there seems to be a lot more folks than usual worried about missing hummingbirds.
At our feeding station we generally have a host of predators that come regularly looking for nests, eggs, nestlings and fledglings, and even adult birds. Don't worry. So, when the birds fail to show up at feeders this time of year, folks understandably get a little nervous.
If you find that these wee birds often grace you with their presences for weeks at a time, only to suddenly and inexplicably disappear, you're not alone.
If you have tray feeders in your backyard, the joys of watching hummingbirds (family Trochilidae) congregate around them are hard to deny. This is an astoundingly low number when compared with an average of 24 RTHU banded by that date during the past 19 complete field seasons at Hilton Pond (see column 2, Table 1 above).That means this year we've banded only 8.3% of the number of RTHU expected by 30 June.

Have you had hummingbirds visiting your feeders in the spring only to have them suddenly disappear? Female hummingbirds spend time sitting on their nests and then, once the babies hatch, the new moms are busy looking for insects to feed the hatchlings.
My Hummingbirds Have Disappeared 2019 If you live in the northern US, you probably eagerly await the arrival of the hummingbirds each spring.
