XCOM 2 vanilla is better in a sense than Long War, but and this is a HUGE BUT... the game right now has issues, and even though I thankfully haven't had all that many, many do. The Long War is a total conversion mod for XCOM 2 that completely changes the gameplay, making the campaign longer, but adding lots and lots of tactical and strategic depth while adding many new weapons and classes.
